Sparkling Eyes

That noon, my mom and I went out, I heard a kitten meow with sad whimpering cry from the bottom of the car, I soon knelt down and gently called "meow -", the kitten also mewed back to response to me. My mom also ignored the muddy ground and knelt down with me to look under the car, but we couldn't see the kitten.

Then my mom tried to find help from people, but they didn't seem to care about it, and told us:

"There's no way..."

"It's just a cat!"

"Never mind!"

"Who cares about that cat!" …

In the evening, when I went to check on the car again, in the car there was a man resting, The man told me: "I could not find the cat, the cat might have left already."

I said in the worried voice: "Sir, the kitten must be still under the car." Please listen!" I gave the cat a meow at the bottom of the car, and the cat immediately answered "meow" back to me.

As soon as the man heard the sound, he took out a flashlight, kneeling under the car, then he shouted: "I found the kitten!" I was so excited that I almost shouted in my English language "Really!"

He handed me the flashlight and bent down with me. Along the light, she was stuck in the tube showing her sparkling eyes.

The tiny kitten was only a little bigger than an adult's fist. The kitten was finally rescued, I am so relieved!

The story does not end here, the kitten was too young, and it doesn't dare to go anywhere. The poor kitten didn't seem to have a mother. Every day, my mom and I went to feed the kitten.

One day, I went and fed the little meow, I saw meow was having a big feast by the passing strangers and after-school kids. The kitten was no longer lonely. She has more people to care about her.  Kindness really will spread.

An after school girl told me that her cat had just died. She wanted to take this kitten home. The second day, she took the little meow meow. The kitten has gotten her own home now.

In China, I see a few wild cats. They eat litter people throw away in the trash can. Their fur are dirty and their faces are looking sad. Nobody paid attention to them. However, I also saw a lady riding a bicycle and carrying cat food into the grass to feed the wild cats.

Recently, on the website, a man called “cat daddy” in shanghai, feeds the wild cats every night for 8 years! I know, stray animals are being cared by many people in this world.

Have you ever heard the story of "The Precious Starfish"? There are a lot of starfish on the beach, a man was picking up starfish and throwing them into the sea, many people asked him, how could you save so many starfish, when there are miles and miles along the beach. He picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea. Then he said happily, "Look! I made a difference for that one."

Yes, I believe that if each of us can do the help a little bit, it will make a difference for one.

I can't see the kitten anymore. My memories will always remember the kitten peeking at me under the car with her sparkling eyes. I know the kitten will also remember when I was trying to rescue her with my sparking eyes.

CherryTree

Cherry Tree

By Nina Zhan

I sat watching the cardinals perched in my cherry tree

So many they out-numbered the many leaves

Their feathers and crest matching the rosy fruits

Stuffing the cherries in their tiny beaks

They came and came with fruit to borrow

“Oh look!” they said in sprightly mood

“Let’s feast on some cherries on our journey to fly!”

So they flounced and sang and landed on my cherry tree

My feathered friends had such a treat

They kept nibbling and gobbling my ripened red fruits

I grew that tree for many years

What friends and joy that it had brought

They ate and ate until their bellies were plump

They found a new home to stay at last

Shining red feathers like stripes on candy cane

Broken in half and meant to be shared

So now winter is here, goodbye my friends, the birds

Protecting my cherry tree frozen with snow

Spring will arrive, the birds will come

Dancing and singing in lively mood...
